This is a worksheet you fill in yourself, not an automated calculator. It uses your numbers only; we don't supply typical rates.
The formula
Email subscribers ≈ Views × Click rate to opt-in page × Opt-in rate
- Views: from YouTube Studio for the period.
- Click rate: clicks to your opt-in page ÷ views. Use tagged links to count clicks; see UTM parameters.
- Opt-in rate: sign-ups ÷ opt-in page visitors, from your email platform or page analytics. See opt-in rate.
Worksheet
| Line | Your number |
|---|---|
| A. Views in the last 28 days | ______ |
| B. Clicks to opt-in page from YouTube | ______ |
| C. Click rate (B ÷ A) | ______ |
| D. Sign-ups from those visitors | ______ |
| E. Opt-in rate (D ÷ B) | ______ |
| F. Check: A × C × E | ______ (should equal D) |
Using it to plan improvements
Because the rates multiply, improving any one improves the total. Try "what if" versions with your own numbers:
- If you mentioned the offer more clearly, might your click rate rise?
- If your opt-in page were simpler, might your opt-in rate rise?
- If you published more videos on the topic, might views rise?
Change one thing at a time and recheck the worksheet after a few weeks.
Ways to lift each number
- Views: clearer titles and thumbnails; see how to get more views.
- Click rate: benefit-first description line, mid-video mention, pinned comment.
- Opt-in rate: a focused page with one offer and a short form; see opt-in page.
Example
Worked example (illustrative arithmetic only)
Suppose a channel had A = 4,000 views and B = 80 clicks. C = 80 ÷ 4,000 = 2%. If D = 24 sign-ups, E = 24 ÷ 80 = 30%. Check: 4,000 × 0.02 × 0.30 = 24. These numbers are only to show the math, not a benchmark.
Tracking over time
Fill in the worksheet monthly. A simple spreadsheet with one row per month shows whether changes are working.
Turning subscribers into value
Once you know roughly how many subscribers your videos bring, the next question is what each one is worth to your business. Use the subscriber value worksheet with your own sales records. To lift your click rate, try a clearer mention of your free resource with the YouTube CTA line builder.
Reading the worksheet each month
If views grow but subscribers don't, the problem is usually the click rate or the opt-in page, not the videos. Retention and returning viewers in the engagement rate worksheet show whether viewers are engaged enough to want more from you.
Watch out
Common mistakes
- Using other people's rates as targets.
- Untagged links, so clicks can't be counted.
- Changing several things at once.
- Ignoring opt-in page problems.

Dave’s take
A principle I keep coming back to
"More important than the number of views is the number of engaged viewers." (Dave)
AI shortcut
How can AI speed this up?
AI tools and plans checked October 18, 2026. They change often, so confirm on each tool's own page. No affiliate links.
- Spreadsheet. Ask ChatGPT to build the worksheet as spreadsheet formulas.
- Numbers. Ask Studio for views by video where available.
- Sign-ups. Read opt-in numbers from AWeber reports.
Tools mentioned:
- ChatGPT: free plan, Go ($8 a month in the US) and Plus ($20 a month).
- Ask Studio in YouTube Studio: free, built into YouTube Studio on desktop for most creators.
- AWeber's AI Writing Assistant: built into AWeber's message and landing-page editor (currently labeled beta), plus a Newsletter Assistant.
AI is great for first drafts. Always edit the result so it sounds like you and is accurate for your business.
Key takeaways
- Subscribers = views × click rate to opt-in page × opt-in rate.
- Use your own numbers from Studio and your page analytics.
- Small improvements to each rate multiply together.
- There are no standard rates; track yours over time.
Frequently asked questions
What's a normal click rate from YouTube to an opt-in page?
There isn't a reliable standard; it depends on topic, audience and how you mention the offer. Measure your own with tagged links and improve from there.
